EHPAD de la Guérinière

The Guerinière retirement home (EHPAD) in Caen is positioned on a large plot developing an urban recomposition in a district undergoing considerable change. As well as providing housing for 110 residents, there is also a PASA, being a services platform for CCAS, the site manager. To allow the largest number of residents to profit from the urban activity, the constructions are located on the alignment of three streets. The housing for residents located from levels 1 to 4 all profit from large windows that act as glazed openings onto the town. The bedrooms are grouped by two, three or four and have clefts that bring views and natural light into the interior circulation areas. As a result, the routes taken by residents are brighter, more identifiable and readable and, most importantly, far less anxiety-provoking.
The vertical constructions formed by the grouping of bedrooms create different types of households.
The in-situ prefabricated stamped concrete has four colour tones ranging from white to warm grey and uses a contemporary stone pattern (travertine). The considerable care taken in the design of the construction details and the interior ergonomics of the spaces represent a guarantee of long-term durability and resilience.
